LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Jim Hannah filed today to run for a second term as head of the state's highest court.

Hannah was first elected to the state's highest court in 2000 and defeated state Appeals Court Judge Wendell Griffen in the 2004 race for chief justice.

So far, no one has filed to run against Hannah in the May 20 non partisan judicial elections.

As of Friday, 289 people have filed to run for public office in Arkansas during the weeklong filing period, which began Monday.

Terry Rice, a Waldron business owner, filed to run as a Republican for the House seat being vacated by Representative Shirley Walters, a Republican from Greenwood. Bill Walters, her husband and a former Republican state senator, surprised state GOP leaders Tuesday when he filed to run for the seat -- as a Democrat.

Linda Bisbee, the wife of state Senator Dave Bisbee, a Republican from Rogers, filed to run for a state House seat in Benton as a Republican.

The filing period for public office ends Monday at noon.
