BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- The House voted today that random lie detector tests should be allowable as part of the conditions of parole or probation for convicted sex offenders.
Representative Jerry "Truck" Gisclair, of Larose, says he thinks the polygraph testing could be useful to ensure sex offenders aren't violating their probation by going to a playground or schoolyard where they are forbidden, for example.
Some lawmakers questioned whether the tests were reliable.
Representative Juan LaFonta, of New Orleans, said he worried that someone could get in trouble for a misreading of the test results or an innacuracy in the test.
The House approved the bill in an 86-5 vote, sending it to the Senate for debate.
